Is it healthy to sleep with your phone?
As a customer service representative, I speak with customers daily who share this exact concern. I always tell them that most sleep experts suggest keeping your phone away from your head while sleeping for two main reasons. The first is the blue light emitted from the phone itself. That glow can interfere with your melatonin levels, making it much harder to drift off even if you feel exhausted. The second reason to keep your phone away is to avoid the urge to check your notifications or social media feed. These can easily take your brain from a relaxed state to one of overdrive due to the dopamine hits they provide.
That's exactly why we started SleepPhones® headphones in the first place. Our co-founder is a family doctor who wanted a way to listen to music or white noise to unwind without keeping her husband, our other co-founder, awake. The goal was to use sound for sleeping without having that bright, simulating screen invade her quiet, restorative space.
I hear from so many people who struggle with traditional headphones or earbuds because they aren't designed for sleeping, especially if you sleep on your side. Over-the-ear headphones are cumbersome and sweaty and earbuds are hard and can easily get jammed in your ears. We thoughtfully designed our soft, breathable headband specifically for comfort throughout the night, no matter if you sleep on your back, stomach, or side. As the ultra-thin, padded speakers gently rest over your ears, nothing digs into them. They are perfect for masking sounds like a snoring partner or traffic.
Lastly, our Bluetooth® enabled SleepPhones® headphones are our most popular offering. With a range of up to 30 feet, many customers keep their phone on the other side of their bedroom or even in the hall to ensure they are not tempted to check if their latest post is gaining traction. If you want to ditch the screen but still need something to help you drift off, we would love to help you find a pair that fits your needs!
