How to wash headband headphones?
So you've been wearing your SleepPhones® headphones for a few weeks now, experienced some deep, restorative sleep, but the headband looks a little, umm, lived in? Maybe there's some pillowcase lint on it or a slight odor clinging to the fabric. It can be a bit unsettling, right? It definitely needs some TLC, but you're not quite sure what to do.
As someone who speaks with customers daily, I frequently receive this question. The biggest mistake I see people make is just tossing the whole kit and caboodle into the washing machine like a pair of old gym socks. Please don't do that! The internal components are not designed to be submerged in water, so this them could ruin them.
To properly wash the headband, first carefully slide the internal components (speakers and module) out of the headband's opening; this takes about 30 seconds. Once the "guts" are removed, only the headband remains. We suggest washing the headband in warm water and avoiding fabric softener or bleach. For drying, we suggest a low to medium temperature. Drying on high heat could bake the headband's fibers resulting in a loss of that soft, comfortable feel that helps you drift off. Avoid ironing, as that could melt the headband.
Once the headband is dry, simply slide the speakers back in. The soft, gray side of the speaker should face the ear. The green stitched speaker should be on the left and the red stitched speaker on the right. Voilà, it's that easy. Now the headband will feel brand new and, more importantly, clean. You deserve that feeling when you lay your head down.
