Can you sleep with headphones on?
"Can you sleep with headphones on?" I spend my day answering questions about SleepPhones® headphones, so I get asked this question a lot. It sounds like a simple question, but truthfully isn't so much about "can you" as it is "should you." Also, most importantly, what kind of headphones are we talking about?
Most headphones are simply not designed for sleep. Some are bulky and awkward, leaving indentations on your head and preventing you from sleeping on your side. Others are small and end up jammed into your ear canal, which, I know from personal experience, is not fun. It seems logical that something small would be more comfortable, but they can cause not only discomfort but also pain. I used to use earbuds in fact, but I'd lie in bed, twisting and turning in pain, trying to get comfortable. My nights were spent battling hard plastic instead of drifting off to peaceful sleep, which took a toll on my waking hours.
That's why we invented SleepPhones® headphones! They're not headphones in the traditional sense, though. Think of them as a soft, comfortable headband with super thin, adjustable padded speakers inside. You barely notice them. It's like snuggling your head into a cloud that plays ambient noises, guided meditations, or podcasts. We designed them specifically for sleeping because we know sometimes you need to block out a snoring partner, a noisy city, or the relentless chatter in your own head. And doing that should not at all feel like torture!
So back to our question: can you sleep with headphones on? With most headphones, probably not comfortably. But with SleepPhones® headphones, yes. At least that's what our customers tell us every single day.
