Are headphones comfortable for running?
That's a fantastic question, but, in our opinion, not historically. When most people think of headphones they picture earbuds or traditional over-the-ear headphones, but both present issues for runners. Unless they're jammed into your ear canal, which can cause irritation or even pain, earbuds tend to fall out during pre-run stretches. Over-the-ear headphones can feel clunky and sweaty once you start moving. Because these types of headphones don't work well during a workout, more people are switching to SleepPhones® andRunPhones® headphones because of their ultra-thin, padded speakers nestled inside soft, contoured headbands. With nothing poking you in the ear, you'll forget you're even wearing headphones.
If you're planning on racking up the miles, I'd suggest looking at our RunPhones® Wireless. Since they use Bluetooth® technology, there is no wire to catch on your clothes or hair. The headband also uses moisture-wicking technology that keeps sweat away from your body and the internal electronics, allowing you to feel cooler and run farther. If you instead choose SleepPhones® headphones, I'd suggest selecting the Breeze fabric rather than the Fleece. The Breeze material is much more breathable and handles moisture better, making it a lot more comfortable for running, yoga, or lifting weights at the gym.
We also know that workouts get super sweaty, so maintenance is pretty easy. Simply remove the internal components (speakers and Bluetooth® module) from the headband and toss it in the wash with your warm water load. For drying, we suggest a low to medium temperature. Once the headband is completely dry, you can easily slide the components back in.
Since everyone has a different head shape, we offer both SleepPhones® and RunPhones® headphones in small, medium, and large sizes. This allows you to find one that actually stays secure while you run. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. We'd love to help you take your run to the next level!
